The Future of Social Media at Amplified

You may know from a previous blog post that I attended an event last year called Amplified. Christian Payne (aka @documentally) interviewed attendees about their opinion of the future of social media and I was lucky enough to be interviewed.

The video is 16 minutes long and contains some excellent and diverse views of where social media is going. Amplified was an excellent event and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Amplified was an event that I went to yesterday at NESTA in London. An unconference that was organically organised by the community that was hugely supported. There were well over 200 people signed up for this event. A who’s who of the UK twitter community.

I actually enjoyed the sessions at Amplified. I flag this up because I rarely *do* sessions. I prefer the talk in the hallways and the bars. Getting to know people. But the sessions were good at Amplified. A chance for everyone to pitch their views or find out more, to question conventional viewpoints and bathe in social networking.

The first session I went to was Lloyd Davis’s session on networks. A great discussion here looking at the different componets and characteristics of networks.

I had a great time at Amplified. There were a lot of people there from my twitter stream that I had never met and lots of familiar tuttle faces. Very mad when you post a picture to twitpic to realise the guy opposite is someone you have followed for a year and never met. This happened to me in every session. Sat next to people on my twitter stream that I had never met. Great to see everyone and exchange ideas.

I hope to submit a topic for the next Amplified which I didn’t do this time because Home Camp kicks off in the morning and has taken all my time in the last few weeks.

Here’s a video of Toby Moores rounding up at the end of Amplified.

A huge thanks to everyone involved with Amplified. It was a superbly organised event. I look forward to the next one.
